Croydon’s Mayor Jason Perry has slammed Labour’s reported plan to add 20% VAT to taxi and private-hire fares – calling it “another attack on hardworking people who keep our city moving.”

Drivers already struggling with ULEZ charges, fuel and insurance costs would be hit yet again – pushing up fares by £2–£3 a journey and punishing passengers who rely on taxis for hospital visits, night shifts and local travel.

Enough is enough. Croydon’s drivers deserve respect and support, not another Labour tax raid. I’ll always stand up for those who rely on their vehicles to earn a living.
– Mayor Jason Perry
