RE: Fair Funding Review

Dear Steve,

We write on behalf of Croydon residents to welcome the Government’s Fair Funding Review and to urge that the reforms be delivered in full and without dilution, ensuring resources are allocated where need and deprivation are greatest.

For over a decade, Croydon has been held back by an outdated formula that fails to reflect our population growth, social challenges, and the rising cost of delivering essential services. Despite the progress we have made in restoring stability and sound management, the borough continues to face pressures that cannot be met under the current funding system.

Early modelling suggests Croydon's funding would increase significantly by year three of the transition - a clear indication of how historically underfunded we have been. We therefore urge the Government to resist attempts to water down the new formula and to ensure that future settlements genuinely reflect local need and demand.

Croydon is ready to make the most of this opportunity. With its finances now stable and proper governance restored, fair funding will allow us to continue improving services and rebuilding the confidence of residents who deserve better after years of uncertainty.

We urge the Government to deliver a fair, needs-based settlement for our borough.

Yours sincerely,

Mayor Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
