Croydon is stepping up visible enforcement across the borough, with additional uniformed patrol officers deployed to tackle antisocial behaviour and keep residents safe.
Under Executive Mayor Jason Perry’s Zero Tolerance approach, accredited community safety officers from Parkguard are increasing patrols in Croydon town centre, on housing estates and in key neighbourhood hotspots. Patrols are already active and will expand further in the coming weeks, including in Thornton Heath.
This is about visible action, not words.
Residents have consistently said they want to see more officers on the streets and faster responses to antisocial behaviour. These enhanced patrols are a direct response to that feedback.
Officers will:
- Provide a strong, uniformed presence in the town centre, supporting the Town Centre Taskforce and enforcement of the Public Space Protection Order
- Work alongside housing and community safety teams on estates where nuisance gatherings, drug-related trespassing and intimidation have been reported
- Support local businesses and respond to concerns raised by traders
- Engage with individuals sleeping rough and connect them to appropriate support services
Although patrol officers do not have arrest powers, they are in direct radio contact with the Police to ensure swift escalation where enforcement is required. Daily reporting will ensure issues are tracked and followed through, including tenancy enforcement where necessary.
Mayor Jason Perry said:
“Croydon is back on track, but we will not tolerate behaviour that makes residents feel unsafe.
“For too long, people felt that antisocial behaviour was ignored. That era is over.
“These additional patrols mean more boots on the ground, quicker responses and clear consequences for those who cause disruption. We are restoring pride in our borough and backing the law-abiding majority who simply want safe streets and decent neighbourhoods.”
Since 2022, Croydon has strengthened partnership working with the Police, introduced targeted enforcement in the town centre and taken firm action on estates where residents asked for help.
This expansion of patrols is another practical step in rebuilding standards, supporting businesses and ensuring Croydon remains a borough where people feel confident, safe and proud to live.
