Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, has confirmed that the Council has completed the sale of its former housing properties in Wooderson Close, Selhurst, marking a significant milestone in enabling the redevelopment of the main stand at Crystal Palace FC’s Selhurst Park.
All former residents have been successfully rehoused, and the properties will now be prepared for demolition. This removes a major barrier to the next phase of construction and allows the long-planned redevelopment to move forward.
Mayor Perry said:
I am pleased to confirm that the Council has completed the sale of its five houses in Wooderson Close, Selhurst. With all residents rehoused, the properties will now be prepared for demolition, clearing the way for the next stage of Crystal Palace FC’s Main Stand redevelopment at Selhurst Park.
This has been the result of sustained work behind the scenes by the Council working with the club. Crucially, the sale will fund replacement new Council homes, helping residents access safe and affordable housing.
As a lifelong Palace supporter, I know how much Selhurst Park means to fans. The new Main Stand and wider improvements will be enjoyed for generations and represent a significant investment in the local area.
Following the acquisition, part of the land will be incorporated into the south-eastern corner of the new main stand, with additional space used initially to support construction activity. This will help manage logistics safely and minimise disruption for supporters on matchdays. Once works are complete, the land will form part of the stadium access road and pedestrian routes.
A number of other enabling works across the stadium site have also progressed, including new changing facilities beneath the Holmesdale End and the relocation of essential infrastructure. These steps will allow further sections of the site to be redeveloped as construction advances.
Further updates on the next stages of the Selhurst Park redevelopment will be shared in due course.
The new Main Stand at Selhurst Park
- Capacity for 13,500 supporters, compared to 5,200 currently
- Three tiers of seating
- All-glass frontage
- 25,072 square metres of internal space
- 41 metres in height
- New club shop, museum and café
The Council will continue to work closely with Crystal Palace FC to ensure the redevelopment delivers long-term benefits for residents, supporters and the wider Croydon community.
